Regaining my hobby mojo

The Ogres are breeding again. It's been a number of months since I last did any work on my home-made Ogres, but I have a particular purpose in mind for some of them in our Albion campaign. Things are moving along in the campaign, which means if I want to actually have the Ogres ready in time, I need to get a move on.
The Ogrepocalypse begins again.

Without giving too much away, I need something specific from these particular Ogres. They need to be fully armoured. I only had one set of armoured legs, so I had to make up another pose to give me a little variety to work with. The arms also need work, but I'll worry about what poses I need once I have started planning out some specific models and work out what weaponry they will be holding.
A new pair of armoured legs and a very large WIP shield
Oh, and as you can see above, I needed some really big Ogre shields. In the long run I want to be able to use some of these guys as Siegebreakers in Kings of War, so I need something that will look the part. At this point the shield was just a very rough, rounded shape onto which I could build something that more closely resembled a completed product. I built it using green stuff squashed onto a plastic ball such as you see in the ball pits kids love to play in. That gave me the rounded shape I was after.
Here is the same shield with a bit more detailing. I'm showing it next to the MOM Miniatures Dwarf shield which was its inspiration. I want them to look right side-by-side/ At the time I wasn't holding them right next to each other, so didn't realise how much thinner my lines were, when you factor in the scale of the shield. I think it will do anyway, once it's been cleaned up a bit.
I also lacked any fully enclosed helmets, so I got to work on one of those.
Help, someone cut off my ears and facial hair!
Gah! What happened?? Now I can't breathe!
From the other side. Note that he appears to have regained some sort of ears. After a fashion. Really they're part of the hinges on the face mask.
After I took these WIP shots I added some breathing slits. Then I made a mould and started copying.
The upshot of doing all this work is that I feel like I am regaining my hobby mojo. I am now looking forward to being able to sit down in the evenings and make more progress on this project. I want fully built, painted models! Obviously this is a way off yet, but I'm confident I'll get there given my current levels of motivation. Maybe I'll have something a bit more finished to show in a few days.

Oh yeah, and it turns out the blog recently ticked over past 1 million hits! I'd like to thank all the automated googly web crawlers for their hard work and dedication in visiting, and the odd real person who accidentally ended up here too. :P

    1. Ned Kelly was not quite the vibe I was after. I will leave the Boganogres to someone else.
