Wyvern and Arachnarok progress

I see that Moonstruck has now sold out, with all 90 places gone. That's pretty cool. It's nice to know that people are still able to get excited about a Warhammer event despite all the uncertainty around the game at the moment.

Over the weekend I managed to make a bit more progress with the stuff I am working on for the Orcs and Goblins. First up was the salvaged Wyvern. After building a basic shape for his neck out of wire and green stuff, I was able to sit down for an hour or two on Friday night and add most of the detail. A brief bit of fiddling at the club on Saturday saw me add some horns and clean up a few things, and the Wyvern himself is basically finished...
One scaly Wyvern neck. Not identical to the existing parts, but close enough.
The horns on top of the head came from an Orc standard. The ones near the mouth are from an Ogre standard.
Some bits are a little rough, but if they can't be addressed with paint, I'll deal with them later.
The shoulder scales are different from those on the back and neck - it's the way the original model did it. Not sure why, but it was easiest to follow suit.
Now he just needs a rider...
I still need to work out exactly what I'm doing about a rider for this guy. After detailing the scales of the shoulders and stuff, I kind of want to have the ability to field the model without a rider and saddle (for Storm of Magic or something similar). So whoever ends up sitting on his back will probably end up being removable.

After finishing up the details on the Wyvern and fidgeting with making a removable saddle, I spent a couple of hours starting work on the unpainted Arachnarok. The howdah and goblins have all been carted off by a friend who was going to spray them all brown for me with an airbrush (to try to help my sanity a bit this time around). In the meantime I focused on the spider.
I converted this Arachnarok a while back so that its pose was different from the other one, and does away with the fallen tree on the back of the base.
There are still some details, but I think he's basically done. The paint-job looks much more muted and less purple in real life. Really the model is predominantly black.
The spines to help break up the colour a bit.
All in all, it was a relatively productive weekend. If I keep making progress like this, getting the Wyverns and Arachnarok done in time for the tournament won't be a big problem. Of course, I still don't know what I will be using...

    1. Cheers. They're pretty easy to paint because they're so large.

    1. You know, I hadn't noticed. I guess it's similar. I've always wanted one of those... Guess this will have to do, eh?

  3. You need more wyvern parts?

    1. Now that I've dealt with the missing parts on this guy I have 5 complete Wyverns, so it's probably fair to say that even I don't need more Wyverns than that.

The future project that I will have to tackle at some point is Trolls, however. I don't have anywhere near enough of those for the size of my army.

  5. Looking forward to the Wyvern and the removable rider. I know it is not Orc and Goblin but one of the old Elric of Melnibone would look so good on this.

    1. I don't have a mounted version of Elric, I'm afraid. You'll just have to imagine it. :P
