Duelling Paintbrushes: Spearmen done

It has taken me a week, but I have now finished with the 15 Spearmen I was painting for Duelling Paintbrushes. In something of a recurring theme with my painting, the unit is not really "finished" per se - there are details like teeth that I should really be picking out, and the banner should have a design on it. But given that time is tight and I may well replace the banner with a less cumbersome one later anyway, I think they've received all the attention they're going to for a while.
15 painted Spearmen. They were a lot faster than those stupid Cold One Knights.
A couple of examples. They're serviceable, if uninspiring.
From here, my target states that I will paint a dozen Crossbowmen and a lord and BSB on Cold Ones in the next 5 days. Given none of them are even fully assembled yet, I don't really think I can get this done based on my month so far. I think I am going to have to shift my focus a little, and just ensure that things will be ready for the Warhammer World Series. The 2 characters will still need to happen, but I think I will use the cheating, half-painted Crossbowmen rather than doing a unit from scratch. Then I can focus on other individual models I require, like the odd Mangler Squig and character for the tournament. Oh, and making sure we have the army lists we need. That is not a small headache.

In some ways this is an admission of defeat, but I'm doing to it make sure I don't mess up the World Series for other people, rather than just focusing on my own (slightly irrelevant) painting goals. Oh well. Priorities, I guess.

  1. Nice how this red/bone color scheme works on the spearmen. On the knights I didn't like it too much but here it really works.

    1. That's probably not surprising, since the scheme was only ever really tested on basic warriors. I suspect the cold one issue is more to do with the green on the mounts, though. Might revisit them with some more detail once I have some time to breathe.

    2. Jep. Green is complementary color and should work pretty well. Perhaps you just should tune it down a bit to dampen the heavy contrast.

      Keep it rollin'!

  2. Love the blog but please can you fix your RSS Feed - last update in there currently is back when you finished painting the mournwolves!

    1. Cheers. Umm, I will look into the RSS thing, but it's not something I ever set up, so I am not sure why it would have gone awry...

    2. I don't know how these things get setup, but when I look at "http://hoodlinghole.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss", I see the latest post. Blogger has things set to push my full content to feeds, so I don't see any other settings at my end.

If you really can't get RSS working, you could always fall back on Facebook updates or something (every post gets a link there).

    3. Just to add: For me the Feed works really good. Every update pops up (be it in Blogger or my blogroll or Feedly).

      Cheers

    4. I've seen things online suggesting some RSS feed stuff got choked when they updated the Blogger interface at some point. It doesn't sound like something I can address from here, unfortunately.

  3. They look good, and goals are something to aspire to but not necessarily achieve.

    1. True, but you also need to approach them with the intent of making it, or they won't really serve their purpose. So failure to reach the goal is always going to be something of a let-down.

  4. Ah! Fresh victims for the ever growing armies of the Vulgar Goatmen! Huzzah!
