Arachnarok done

I am finally calling this stupid Arachnarok done. Is he a work of art? No. But he (and the teeming horde of Goblins on his back) is covered in lots of paint, and that will have to do. He has taken enough of my time.
One painted Arachnarok, ready for battle.
He sees you
The view from the side
Man, check out that butt crack. Umm I mean the gap in his back. I really need to fix that. Well, that's unlikely. Maybe I will try to hide it with paint. Some other time. Or I might try just not looking at it.
Say hello to his little friends
There is so much stupid fiddly detail there. All the feathers and bones. All the cobwebs binding the sticks of the howdah together. Many of which did not get painted properly. So sue me.
Handling very large spiders can be hazardous to your health
Even the model's base is covered with little spiders and bound Goblins. Thank goodness I assembled the other one without this bit.
I knew this model would be a big job to paint, but the Goblins were a traumatic experience. May I never have to paint another of these things again...

Except for the other one I have undercoated on my painting table.

Kill me now.

  1. The paint job looks pretty good to me, and it will make a great centrepiece (or double-centrepiece, if you can face the trauma of the other one) - so it's all worth the pain. You could always write off those gaps at the back as overlapping carapace plates or something.

Good to have you back blogging after the (brief) hobby lull.

    1. Cheers. Yeah, I may well just leave the gap alone. If for no other reason than I really don't think about it when I'm just looking at the model. So often it takes photos to really bring these things to mind.

  2. Great job, way to struggle through all that goblin nonsense. Good luck with the second spider ... particularly coming from another guy who has two of his own arachnaroks who have been sitting in their dusty black prime coats for years now O_O Pretty sure I myself will never get around to them, but if the Hoodling can paint up two of the beasties ...

    1. That's right, if I can do it then you can too!

Just tell me you haven't glued all the goblins to the howdah before painting. That would make a big difference. An airbrush might be handy too...

  3. I have managed one of my brace, but the other languishes in it's box. You have done a nice job. Chin up at least the second one should go a little quicker.

    Good luck

    1. I will keep telling myself the same thing. The second one will be easier. Unfortunately I don't have much reason to believe that. But for me they come as a pair, so now I've done one, I really have to do the other.

  4. Does anyone out there actually own less than two arachnaroks? Everyone who comments seems to own two...

    1. As I say, they feel like they make sense as a pair. If you decide you like Arachnaroks, you probably want to field more than one and really scare people.
