Greatsword progress

Another weekend has ticked by and the Battle of Heffengen is now only 10 days away. Time us running out, but I continue to make progress. Since my last update I have painted my Greatsword unit filler and another 9 members of the unit. This means the 15 I had completed previously has suddenly expanded to 42, counting the filler. This is satisfactory progress, and if I am feeling like things are under control, that must mean they're really going rather well!
The supply wagon unit filler for my Greatsword regiment is completed.
The view from the front, complete with the wonky sword on the guard. I didn't plan things very well - it ultimately has to bend like that to ensure it's firmly planted (and glued) to the base.
The other side. As you can see, it's all pretty basic. Nothing too fancy.
The Quartermaster is magnetised by a nail in his right foot, so he pivots around a bit.
The guard, being the only thing that really ties the wagon to its parent unit. Maybe I should have put more great weapons in the wagon.
The Quartermaster. I haven't gotten around to writing anything on his checklist yet. Maybe if I come up with something funny.
9 more Greatswords, ready to go.
The full unit as it currently stands.
One of the hazards of working with piles of second-hand models is that you can end up with an excess of command models. This is the metal Greatsword standard bearer model, waving a free company great weapon about so he can hide as a regular soldier.
If I wasn't so lazy I might have given him a puffy sleeve. But I am really not concerned with such things right now.
The unit filler is rather enormous and silly in such a small unit (its 18-model-footprint is almost half of the current unit's total), but it will be OK when the full 60 man regiment is done. I now have 2 more waves of 9 models to do, and the unit will be complete. Yay! Then I just need to consider whether anything else needs to be done. There's always something more...

  1. Very cool unit filler has a lot of character and unit looks great. Like the old school green edging on the base to

    1. Cheers. The green does seem very prominent in these photos. I think I need to play with my camera settings again.

    1. At first I thought that was not a word. But then I realised that it must be, because you surely would not have used it otherwise...

  3. I quite like the unit filler in the medium sized unit, to me it works well but I am looking forward to the full 60 strong unit. When I first gamed hammer around second edition, 60 of anything constituted most of my army spread around as oh 6-8 units with a frontage of 4. Ah the days have changed.

    1. Yeah, those were the days. 60 Greatswords would have been a thing of hilarity. As for 40 knights... Well people still laugh at that now, I suppose.
